Classification of Textured Yarns
1. Classification Based on The Level of Bulk and Elastic Recovery
| Type of Textured Yarn | Characteristics | Method of Production |
|---|---|---|
| Stretched Yarn/ Crimped yarns/ Single Heater Yarns | High extensibility and rapid recovery from extension, Low bulk | Twist, heat set and untwist, False twist texturizing, Edge crimping |
| Modified Stretched Yarn/Textured Yarns/ Double Heater Yarn | Moderate extensibility and bulk | Same methods as mentioned above with additional heating of yarns |
| Bulked Yarn | High bulk, Low extensibility, and recovery from extension | Air texturizing, Stuffer box crimping, Gear crimping, Knit-de-knit process, etc. |
Note: Stretched, modified stretched, and bulked yarns are used for all kinds of apparel. Bulked yarns are more suitable for home furnishing
2. Classification Based on Process Type
Mechanical Texturising: Involve only mechanical processes to create the textured structure.
Examples: Airjet Texturing
Thermomechanical Texturising: Yarns are textured through the application of heat and mechanical action.
Examples: False Twist Draw Texturing, Gear Crimping, Edge Crimping, Knit-de-Knit, Stuffer Box Crimping, etc.
