Types of Pattern Used in Apparel Industry

Pattern is the template from which the parts of garment are traced onto fabric before being cut out and assembled. Patterns are usually marked on paper. In industry following 3 types patterns are used.

Production Pattern

This pattern consists of seams and notch marks. This pattern also consists of pattern details like size, cut, grain line details, style number, pattern number. This pattern is used for production of garments and marker making.

Nested Pattern

This pattern is used for checking purpose – checking of various sizes like S, M, L, XL. This pattern helps to check whether the size of cut part is correct or wrong.

Cut part is placed on nested pattern and all outlines are matched with nested pattern. Generally, in any cut bundle first, middle and last piece is checked. In following image nested pattern of pocket is shown – one piece from bundle of pocket which is already cut is to be placed on nested pattern to check accuracy of cut part.

Marking Pattern

This pattern is used to mark a particular Locations.

For example –Some embroidery or logo is to be marked on a particular location then marking pattern will be used to mark that location. With this mark people in embroidery department will understand and then taking that point as reference they will do embroidery.
