What is Texturing/Texturising/Texturizing?
A process of imparting comfort characteristics such as luxurious bulk, moisture, and softness by introducing permanent crimps, curls, loops, etc., into continuous filaments by mechanical deformation is known as Texturing or Texturising.

Textured Yarn
Objective of Texturizing
- The objective of texturizing is to improve the comfort properties of yarns.
- The texturizing process does not improve the strength of the yarn, whereas the drawing process improves the strength of the yarn.
- In the case of texturizing, there is always an increase in bulk and elastic recovery of yarns to improve comfort.
- The level of texturizing is judged by the level of bulk and elastic recovery of yarns.
- Therefore, textured yarns are classified based on the level of bulk and elastic recovery.
Bulk and elastic recovery of textured yarns
- Bulk and elastic recovery are the important characteristics of textured yarns
- Bulk is volume/unit weight
- Bulk is related to an increase in the volume of yarn without increasing weight
- Due to the zig-zag ness of filament in textured yarn, a gap is created between filaments, and the air is entrapped in these gaps and diameter of the yarn increases and the volume also increases
- Elastic recovery is the extensibility and level of recovery from extension
